Authorities in New Hampshire say a 16-year-old boy last seen walking home Friday night during a rainstorm may have been swept away into an open storm drain.
Nashua Police responded Friday night to a report that a person may have fallen into the drain. Investigators found some personal items nearby, but the heavy water flow prevented them from determining if someone was inside.
On Saturday, the parents of Jacob Goulet filed a missing-persons report, saying they had not seen or heard from their son since the previous evening, when left a friend's house to walk home.
Police said surveillance footage confirmed that the items found near the drain Friday evening did belong to Goulet. Investigators also said the drain was located along the route he may have taken to get home.
Jacob was described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 200 pounds with black hair cut short on the sides and long along the top of his head. He was last seen wearing a denim vest with metal studs on it, a gray T-shirt, black shorts and black Converse All Star sneakers.
The Nashua Police Department is overseeing a search that includes the Nashua River, the Merrimack River and the city's storm drain system. Police are being assisted by the fire department and its dive team, public works employees and members of the state Fish and Game department.
WMUR reported that Goulet's uncle and cousin were yelling his name into storm drains across the city in the home that he would respond.
"I just hope that maybe he might have fallen in and he’s just hanging on and maybe he’s too cold to yell. Maybe we’ll see him, we’ll hear him. Just can’t stop trying, you know?" Goulet's uncle, Darren Blouin, told the station.
It was not immediately clear how long the search could take.
